Are there any gay NHL players? His strength and calmness during play while being able to read the game flow, stood him out even before he got to the pro league.

In 2020, he was drafted 73rd overall by Nashville where he developed discipline and skill.

The amount of support I got, not just from the hockey community, but people everywhere, – I was getting messages from individuals in Sweden, or Australia. Because there are no more suspected gay NHL players, we move to Brock McGillis, who is regarded as the first ever skater to openly reveal his sexual status in hockey, to our list.

The professional goaltender came out of the closet in 2016, and this made a significant mark in the hyper-masculine cultured game.

He didn’t stop there, and took it head on by opening up on his sexual orientation to his other teammates and informed the athletic director about the matter. After his period in Liiga, he moved on to the Mestis (Finland’s second tier) and also spent a full season in France with the Rapaces de Gap.

Beyond his game numbers, Puhakka’s most significant achievement was his historic coming out.

Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, the stars of “Heated Rivalry,” have both spoken about how they hope the show helps viewers who are in the LGBTQ+ community.

“There’s both like the representation of a queer character that a lot of people relate with, whether they feel like him or they feel like they knew him,” Williams, 24, said in a recent interview with Forbes.

This came out and now I’m ready [to come out].’ It’s not happening,” McGillis said.

THN: At least publicly, the reaction when you came out seemed extremely positive. In November 2009, while attending Miami University, he came out publicly as gay, a landmark moment since he was considered the closest person connected to the NHL at that time to do so.

So I want to keep making sure that those are up to my standards before I do anything else.
