James Franco strips down to nearly nothing in the new trailer for his upcoming gay porn thriller King Cobra, which he stars in and produced.
In the clip above — which was released on Monday, September 26 — the 38-year-old actor portrays Joe, an adult-film producer who is competing to lure the talents of Brent Corrigan (played by Disney alum Garrett Clayton) away from a rival X-rated producer.
In the steamy preview, Franco and Clayton, 25, get cozy with each other and show off their hot bodies in a slew of sweat-inducing shirtless scenes.
The movie is based on the real-life murder of gay porn producer Bryan Kocis, who’s embodied by Christian Slater’s Stephen.
When I booked it and spoke to Justin (the director), he told me to take the role and make it my own so that if or when the real Sean watched the movie he wouldn’t feel like we were making fun of his life. Well, I hope that people can see that I take my work very seriously and love what I do.
The montage is showing him becoming a star. Garrett Clayton: It was interesting. And, I am starting rehearsals for HAIRSPRAY Live! There’s drama and serious things that happen, but you have to be a little light-hearted when you are dealing with gay porn. “And as I’ve gotten older, I think I have gotten less judgmental about things and hopefully a little bit more mature about these subject matters.”
He added: “I’ve never played a homosexual before and I just didn’t want to, I guess, bring any stereotypical nonsense to it, or do any kind of caricature-y type things that I’ve seen in other films.
So to prepare for the role I read up on the entire story through (the book) Cobra Killer, Wikipedia, and some other books. Just like any other project, I knew that if I focused on the work I could make it through, although the first day of filming was pretty scary! It organically turned into this whole other thing and I embraced it. Garrett Clayton: Obviously, as I’m sure anyone would guess, it was very scary to take on a role like this when coming from Disney.

Garrett, you portray a real living person in your role as Sean Paul Lockhart (Brent Corrigan) in King Cobra, but you didn’t have the real Lockhart as a consultant on this film.
I hate clothes.”
But what about the sex scenes in King Cobra? Was he always the one in mind for the part he plays? When a sexual act was happening, Justin and I talked about how it promoted the plot. Justin Kelly: It is different in that King Cobra is sort of a dark comedy which wasn’t the intent.
I haven’t been brought down because people are focused on who I’m dating, what I’m eating, or what handbag is the best handbag — that’s so cheap to me. I also looked up the (film) work he has done. But there has been some indication with its strong premiere at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival that this film may crossover to the straight moviegoers.
I don’t think it adds to the work; it just distracts from it.
I’m supportive of an open-minded lifestyle and letting people do what they want to do with their lives, so it’s nice to be able to do another, different type of role. Even though the scenes are R-rated they are pretty intense.
