Since then it has improved and here is what you need to know today:

  • Same-ടex ടexual activity: Legal
  • A survey completed in 2013 by the Pew Research Centre reported 73% of adults agreed homosexuality should be accepted in society.
  • Same-ടex marriage: not recognised but also not prohibited
  • Discrimination protections: None at the national level but many anti-discrimination ordinances exist at the local government level
  • Government officials: there are a number of openly LGBTQ+ individuals within the government

While the laws are not perfect, the attitudes of the majority of people are positive.

However, take a 45 minute ride on a tricycle and you will arrive at the beautiful Nacpan beach.

I really wanted to do this because I wanted a mix of fun activities but also some down time. Shows usually start at 1:30 m and there is an entrance fee which comes with 3 drinks (normally).

Adonis Gigolo – drag queens and hot gogo dancers?

Look at their Instagram to be sure.

Jungle Queer Party – No longer operating.

How to get to the Philippines

There are over 50 airports throughout the Philippines ranging from those taking only propeller planes to the large international airports.

You are most likely to fly in to the main airport in the capital Manila, or Cebu, which has a smaller international airport.

But the Ortigas area, east of downtown, features new shopping malls, and some of the best gay bars in Manila that draw an open, youthful crowd with energy and there are many other Manila queer bars around the surrounding areas if you want to journey out.

Our Manila LGBTQ+ Travel Guide Top Picks

The LGBTQ+ scene in Manila is spread out with loads of queer and gay bars in various pockets around the metro area of the city.

Malate’s waterfront bars might be Manila’s best people-watching, hottie-spotting places. As one of Southeast Asia's largest pride events, it’s a vibrant spectacle you won't want to miss! It's a guaranteed good time, whether you're belting out ballads or cheering from the sidelines.

Club Adonis: The Heat of Manila's Gay Club

Club Adonis is a revered gay institution in Manila's male entertainment industry, drawing a young, local crowd of students and their admirers.

But fear not! Flights can be quite expensive if you do not plan in advance. Place is nice, cool, and bright, definitely the place you'd want to chill in when you're tired after work or just want to have a few drinks. The company I used at the time was called Planet Action Adventure Tour Services.

If you go to Cebu make sure you make time to go canyoneering in Badian, you will not regret it!

Fair warning – by the end you will want to book a flight right away!

Gay Philippines Travel Guide

LGBTQ+ Rights in the Philippines

Whether you are travelling to the Philippines for your gay honeymoon or just for a vacation, knowing the LGBTQ+ rights beforehand is important.

Thankfully, when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights, the Philippines is ahead compared to most of Asia.

I am not saying it is perfect; there is still work to be done as with most places in the world, but you can feel confident visiting the Philippines as a gay traveller.

The history of LGBTQ+ rights here is very interesting.

Here I did a two tank dive and headed out by speed boat directly from the beach.

Just like El Nido, there was an abundance of sealife and I enjoyed every second.

Whale Sharks in Oslob (Cebu) – do not do!

I have included a mention of this as it is super popular but comes with a warning.

This is something I seriously considered doing as I would love to see a whale shark.

gay bar in manila city

In this ‘Gay Philippines Travel Guide‘ I will focus on these three islands in the order I travelled:

Cebu

My first stop was the province of Cebu. Check the FAQs.

Altermale (the We’rehouse) Manila – this gay sauna is now permanently closed.

Note that usually you need to pay a membership fee and entrance and will likely need ID.

Gay Beaches in the Philippines

If you are looking for a gay beach in the Philippines then your best bet is White Beach Puerto Galera.

I have not been to Puerto Galera, however it’s known to be a free and open place popular with gay travellers and therefore the main beach, White Beach, has been coined the “unofficial gay beach” at certain times of the year for the number of gay men strutting in their speedos.

In all honesty, I wouldn’t plan my trip around this—if you happen to visit Puerto Galera, check it out but don’t make it your sole reason for going; there is so much more to the Philippines.

Philippines: LGBTQ Pride and Events

Like a lot of countries in Asia, it is usually the larger cities that will be host to pride organisations and LGBTQ events.

Metro Manila Pride – is a volunteer-managed, non-partisan, not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating, equipping and empowering the Filipino LGBTQIA+ community to work towards a future that recognizes and respects the rights of persons to a dignified life without discrimination and prejudice.

This is where I went and saw a few other gay couples so felt super comfortable here. I stayed at the beautiful Movenpick Hotel Mactan Island. For me, this was especially true being tourists in hotels and doing tourist activities. They also have cocktails that can be served either in a glass or a pitcher na hindi tinipid, you can even watch them actually make it right at the bar.

From here you can walk back across the water to Las Cabanas – given it is low tide!

Most people will get a tricycle from the main town to this beach however I suggest something much better! With gender-neutral bathrooms and a lively crowd, it’s a place to dance, laugh, and make unforgettable memories.

Manila might not have the largest number of LGBTQ+ bars as it used to, but it more than makes up for it with its big heart and even bigger personality.

As the night progresses, O Bar transforms into a pulsating dance floor where you can dance your heart out till dawn.

Fred's Revolución: Quezon City's Quirky Gem

Found in the hipster haven of Cubao Expo, Fred's Revolución is the epitome of rustic cool. With sizzling hot exotic dancers, live shows, and occasional drag competitions, Adonis is a must-visit gay club for anyone seeking a lively, youthful atmosphere.
