Sinful gay

This topic is often deeply personal and culturally sensitive, but believers are called to hold firmly to God’s Word with both compassion and conviction. Any marriage or sexual relationship outside of that union is a sin. Our thoughts, desires, and dispositions are all affected. In other words, some of the Corinthians, before they were saved, lived homosexual lifestyles; but no sin is too great for the cleansing power of Jesus.

Romans 1 specifically roots the sin in a rejection of God’s created design—a design established in Genesis 1–2 and affirmed by Jesus Himself.

Jesus affirmed the marriage covenant as between one man and one woman (see Matthew 19:4–6), rooting sexual morality in creation—not culture.

Yes.

Like every sin, homosexuality is not merely about breaking a command; rather it is a sin because it goes against God’s good design of sexuality, identity, and marriage. We must all be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2) and “take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).

The second part of this question, “is it sinful to engage in homosexual activities because of same-sex attractions?” has a more straightforward answer.

We may be misunderstood, accused of being hateful or intolerant, or pressured to compromise. The gospel does not promise instant change in desires, but it does promise transformation in direction, obedience, and freedom.

Feeling a same-sex attraction is not an active, willful sin, but yielding to that proclivity and engaging in homosexual relations is.

Our culture assures homosexuals that they were born gay and that confused sexuality is to be celebrated, not overcome. But verse 11 reminds them, “That is what some of you were. Although all sin is equally sinful in God’s eyes and separates us from God, sexual sin is uniquely damaging because it is a sin against one’s own body, which is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-19).

The Bible teaches that Christians are to live for God, deny themselves, pick up their cross, and follow Him (Matthew 16:24), including with their sexuality. This calls us all to humbly recognize that we are sinners in need of salvation and that God’s ways are better. Scripture says we are sinners by nature (Romans 5:12). He destroys the power that sin once held over us (Romans 6:1–7). Together, they refer to both the passive and active participants in male homosexual activity.

Some modern translators have tried to soften or reinterpret these terms. God’s good design was to make male and female compatible for one another—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—so that together they would reflect His image, live in unity, and fulfill His purpose for creation in a relationship of mutual support and complementarity.
