Many Alpha women are attracted to Alpha males who share their own qualities of competitiveness and dominance. Set in 1980s Indiana, the scene presents acceptance as immediate and universal, a choice some viewers feel simplifies the social risks queer teenagers faced at the time. In season 5, episode 7, after the most intense mental connection between Henry Creel/Vecna and Will yet—wherein the two are effectively fighting over control of Vecna's body—Will experiences terrifying visions.
Although viewers don't get to witness Will's visions directly, it's clear that Vecna has shown Will a future in which his friends and family drift away from him, if not outright reject him, for his identity.
For most gay individuals, those bad old days are over. You speculate: He doesn't seem very aggressive, or he appears a little too "neat" (picks up his towels and socks!) or maybe he seems "too" relationship-oriented. Something about this bothers you. Will speaks about the fear that naming this truth would alter how the people he loves see him, and that being honest about himself could leave him isolated.
While Will does not explicitly name Mike Wheeler, the dialogue gestures toward feelings that the series has quietly suggested over multiple seasons.
Joyce and Jonathan reassure him without hesitation, and the rest of the group follows.
Others question why the confession involves such a large group, suggesting that a more private moment — with Joyce or Jonathan — might have preserved intimacy without halting the plot so dramatically.
There is also debate around tone and realism. If he isn't sexually aggressive, then what is he? For them, the lack of tension makes the moment feel less grounded.
The creators have maintained that the scene was long planned and essential to Will’s arc.
Many women find it much harder to accept that their husband is leaving them for another man rather than for another woman. Stranger Things season 5, Volume 2, comprising episodes 5, 6, and 7, dropped on Christmas Day. This trio of episodes represents the final three before the finale, so expectations were high.
Among the major reveals in season 5, Volume 2, was a pivotal Will Byers scene that fans have been waiting years to see: a coming out to his friends and family.
Will Officially Comes Out As Gay In Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2
After years of online chatter, hints during interviews, and fan speculation, Will Byers has officially come out as gay in Stranger Things.
But things are changing, and we're naturally confused and anxious, worrying about who is legitimately "male." Can a guy be a "real man," even if he's not overtly macho? They perceive a threat to their judgment, their sexuality, and their attractiveness. Was he gay? Experience shows us that this type of man will usually keep his own priorities front and center—partnership is not his strong suit.
When you're ready for a long-term relationship, you will want to choose a man who will work with you to build a life together and encourage you on your individual path—be it the PTA, academia, your own business, or Wall Street.
Although Will identifies the countless ways he is like his friends (the games, movies, and food they like, etc.), he explains that he doesn't like girls.
Will doesn't explicitly say the word gay, but it's abundantly clear not only in his explanation that he doesn't like girls the way his friends do, but also due to his reference to having a crush on someone while looking at Mike, that he's coming out.
This is a plot that has been building for some time, with Will increasingly struggling to watch Mike and Eleven/Jane's relationship and his conversations with Robin about how to take that leap or read the signs the way that Robin did with her now-girlfriend Vickie.
It could be argued that Mike was saying Will hadn't yet matured to the point that he, Dustin, and Lucas had, but the implication was there regardless.
Season 4 and the first few episodes of season 5 also made it obvious that Will was gay, especially with his increasingly overt feelings towards Mike.
Thankfully, though, there was no such negative reaction.
Immediately, Joyce reassures Will that he will never lose her, and Jonathan, Lucas, Dustin, Mike, El, and Robin all chime in with the same. A husband may be gay and display none of those signs or a husband may display these signs and not be gay. In response, Will tells Joyce and then Mike that he has something he needs to share, not just with the two of them but with everyone.
But, of course, this is not true. Keep in mind that many gay males are tuned in to their orientation before puberty, so an adult man will probably be perfectly aware that he's gay. According to the Duffer Brothers, Will’s honesty is tied directly to his ability to resist Vecna, positioning self-acceptance as a form of strength ahead of the final battle.

This coming out scene did stir up plenty of discourse online in terms of the 'ship' wars going on between Bylers—those who want Will and Mike to get together—and Milevens—those who want Mike and Eleven to end up together—because episode 7 seemed to confirm Byler isn't happening.
During this coming out scene, Will explains that he had a crush on someone (while looking at Mike) but realized that this person is his 'Tammy,' a reference to the girl Robin was crushing on but who ultimately was never going to reciprocate her feelings.
If a husband is gay, it can devastate not only the relationship but the straight wife as well.
