Every year, LGBT community members can attend arts and crafts shows and featured entertainment hosted by regional LGBTQ organizations. Fountaingrove Lodge offers a full schedule of activities, a fitness center, restaurant-style dining, maintenance, and housekeeping. Recreational clubs host outdoor activities like kayaking and tennis. Many seniors feel they need to go back into the closet when they enter the senior care system.

The loneliness and isolation that can accompany aging are often compounded by discrimination and the fact that LGBT people are less likely to have children and may be ostracized by their families.

Spirit on Lake Apartments offers a community room, lobby, fitness center, outdoor patio area, and lovely green space.

Until the day comes when LGBT seniors can fully avail themselves of all of the options available to other seniors without fear of being ostracized or discriminated against, it’s good to know that the options highlighted in this article exist.

It’s a somewhat young city—it was incorporated in 1947. If you’re older, it’s time to get serious.

Below is a good start, whether you’re 20 or 65.

1. Buy life insurance

We often only think of life insurance when we start growing our families. Also, consider how management treats its LGBT employees. Please check their website for meeting updates.

Now that affordable, LGBT-specific housing is becoming more common in states like New York, North Carolina, and Florida, you won’t have to worry about finding a retirement community in the Sunshine State.

LTCI is one of the more complex parts of medical care because it often requires the physical labor of others.

The benefit to you, though, is that LTCI can help with basic needs at home, such as cooking, eating, and cleaning, and can help with assisted living needs, such as your day-to-day physical well-being, like bathing and going to the bathroom.

With insufficient finances or insurance, decisions on how you’re cared for may be left to the state or a guardian assigned to you.

Affordable facilities are in high demand, and most of these places were filled via a lottery system before opening. In Florida, LGBT seniors can also receive extended congregate care, which provides 24-hour supervision.

Nursing Homes

If extended congregate care doesn’t suffice, you can place your loved one in a nursing home. Please inform us if you experience discrimination or homophobia while visiting any destination so we can make updates to our recommendations.
