The Door Jam is a place to squeeze in relevant articles written about C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. The Lord of the Rings has a wide range of fans. If people who love that world want to create their own ideas of the relationships that’s up to them. Plus, San Diego Comic Con brings lots of news on The Rings of Power and other nerd franchises.

I’ll have more to say about this later, but I wanted to share this now.

It boasts an expansive catalog, but the space also features notable and museum-worthy artifacts and exhibits, such as the largest C.S. Lewis collection in the United States with first-edition books and handwritten letters; primitive oil lamps and their evolution over time; exact replicas of the Dead Sea Scrolls; and two King James Bibles from the 1600s.

When asked at Comic Con if an LGBTQ character could appear in The Rings of Power, showrunner Patrick McKay said, “Maybe you have already.”

I hope McKay was simply trying to placate an LGBTQ fan catching him in a difficult spot by asking that question in a public setting.

The show’s creators don’t want to alienate potential viewers. The “holy grail” of Tolkien letters is up for sale. That’s a beautiful thing.”

Both actors will star in the new film, but will not be reprising their roles as Merry and Pippin.

The animated instalment to the Lord of the Ring universe is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy.

It tells the narrative of the ninth King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, the last of the original line of succession, as he and his family wage a war against an army of Dunlendings in the stronghold of the Hornburg, a fortress that later becomes known as Helm’s Deep.

The Lord of the Rings, which has a long and rich LGBTQ+ history, has inspired generations of queer folk, from The Hobbit through to the new Amazon Prime series, The Rings of Power.

Many fans ‘ship’ Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, believing that they are destined for one another.

He said not, and added in the same interview: “I thought over a decade ago, you won’t be on your own for long. Tolkien, their work, adaptations of their fantasy worlds, and other potentially interesting news, information, and articles.

But, regardless of any of our personal feelings about the matter, an openly LGBTQ character in Middle-earth demonstrates a complete disregard for the creator of that fantasy world.

Other stories highlight Lewis, including a Lewis-heavy library in Texas. On Wednesday, I’ll explain why, outside of one even more controversial option, this would be contradictory to Tolkien’s ideals.

The non-circulating library (meaning books can’t be checked out) cost an estimated $10 million plus to build.

“Merry’s heartbreak when Pip leaves and the joy when they reunite feels so overtly romantic to me,” they explained.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be released in the UK and Ireland on 13 December, 2024 by Warner Bros. But for one fan named Beatrice it was Merry and Pippin’s love for each other that touched them.

I recognize the balancing act involved here. Of course there are lots of gay actors, but playing the roles I’m playing I don’t think there’s many.”

Lord of the Rings stars Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan have spoke to PinkNews about The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and say fans imagining hobbits Merry and Pippin as a gay couple is a “beautiful thing”.

The legendary duo played Marry and Pippin in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy.

Asking about their thoughts on the Lord of the Rings fans “shipping” their fictional characters, Boyd recalled a “piece of art” stemming from a scene that featured Merry and Pippin both “holding each other topless”.

“It’s one of my favourite pieces of Lord of the Rings, I think it’s really lovely,” he said.

Shipping refers to fans wishfully regarding fictional characters as being, or having the potential, to become romantically involved with one another.

‘That’s a beautiful thing’

Monaghan added: “In the books they’re great friends, almost slightly related as family.

Unless otherwise stated, I’m not necessarily endorsing (or criticizing) any of these, merely sharing them with you.

It’s more Tolkien at the top this week.

‘Hobbit’ Star Luke Evans Can’t Think Of “Many” Gay Actor Playing His Kind Of Roles

Luke Evans is surprised there aren’t more gay actors performing the kind of macho screen roles that have made him a Hollywood star.

In an interview with The Guardian newspaper, the Welsh actor shared that he first realised he had broken through one of Hollywood’s glass ceilings when he was cast in macho roles including The Hobbit and the Fast & Furious franchise, and gay activist and actor Ian McKellen (Gandalf in Lord of the Rings) told him, “Ooh look at you, you’re going to be a big butch star!”

Evans said of McKellen’s comment: “He was aware of the ground I was treading.

I just hoped it would have moved further than it has.”

Evans is currently filming a TV series called Criminal, in which he plays a tough, straight man, and he was asked if he could think of any other out gay actors who would be cast in the same part?
